Mohana Raj Thanapal

Mohana Raj Thanapal is currently a consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He obtained is medical degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2004 and went on to complete his MRCS from Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) and Masters of Surgery (Universiti Malaya). Upon completion of his postgraduate studies in 2012, He was practicing in Hospital Kuala Lumpur, HKL as a general surgeon. He joined the Malaysian Colorectal Subspecialty programme in July 2015 and completed his training in October 2019. He had his initial 2 years of training in Malaysia. Subsequent Overseas Colorectal Fellowship training was in United Kingdom (UK) under the International Surgical Training Programme (ISTP) organized by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) England. During his stay there; he did his clinical attachment in Whittington Hospital and St. Mark’s Hospital, London . Upon completion of the training, He has been posted to HKL as a general and colorectal Surgeon since November 2019 till present. He has also obtained his FRCS in General Surgery from Royal College of Surgeons England. Besides his full-time position in Hospital as a consultant general and colorectal surgeon, he also has a sessional private practice in KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 and appointed as an adjunct lecturer by MAHSA University Apart form his clinical duties; he is also actively involved in training of junior doctors, research and publications. His area of interest is in locally advanced colorectal cancer and young colorectal cancers.
