Dr. Hakim graduated with an MBChB from the University of Dundee, Scotland in 1997. He completed his general surgical training with a Master in Surgery (General Surgery) degree from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2005. He then pursued further training in Breast & Endocrine Surgery Subspecialty with the Ministry of Health followed by a 1-year Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery in Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Hakim trained in endoscopic and robotic thyroidectomy with Professor Woung Youn Chung who popularized robotic surgery for thyroid diseases. In 2011, he returned to Hospital Kuala Lumpur to continue serving as a consultant Breast & Endocrine surgeon. In HKL, he introduced minimally invasive thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgeries. He is one of the few surgeons in the country who offers TOETVA to selected patients. Currently, Dr Hakim is the head of Breast & Endocrine unit, as well as the deputy head of Department of Surgery, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He is a trainer for the Masters of Surgery programme, the Breast & Endocrine Subspecialty Training programme as well as the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Training-the-Trainers for General Surgery course.
